The Essential Cleaning Crew Checklist for Your Vacation Rental

vacation at my place cleaning crew checklist

To ensure ultimate cleanliness, provide your vacation rental cleaning crew with this checklist.

A clean vacation rental is key for a satisfying rental experience. Hiring a cleaning crew can help ensure that high-traffic areas are thoroughly cleaned between guests. After a comprehensive cleaning, your vacation rental guests will be able to enjoy a sanitary, comfortable stay in your property. A great way to ensure that every area is cleaned to your satisfaction is to create a checklist for your cleaning crew. As you make your checklist, make sure it includes the following critical areas.

The Bathroom

The bathroom is one of the most critical elements of your vacation rental. No one wants to stay in someone else’s mess! Make sure your team cleans:

  1. The toilet
  2. The shower/bathtub, including the drains
  3. The jets on your tub, if relevant
  4. Sinks
  5. The floor

The Bedrooms

Often, your guests will spend more time in the bedrooms than they will in any other area of the rental. Not only do you want to make sure that every guest has fresh, clean sheets, make sure that your cleaners check:

  1. Under the bed (It’s one of the most common places guests leave items!)
  2. Inside drawers and closets
  3. The headboard and footboard of the bed, if it has one

The Kitchen

All too often, guests will leave messes behind in the kitchen. Sometimes, they may not have the right cleaning supplies on hand to clean up properly. Other times, they might leave a mess behind out of carelessness. As your cleaners take on the kitchen, make sure that they include:

  1. Deep cleaning any specific messes
  2. Wiping down the stove both inside and out (someone else’s cooking residue can be a real turnoff for guests in your rental!)
  3. Oven, microwave, and refrigerator handles
  4. Cleaning the inside of the fridge
  5. Cleaning countertops
  6. Looking through cabinets and cleaning up any messes left behind

General Cleaning Tasks

In addition to more specific, room by room cleaning tasks, make sure your cleaning crew takes on these critical jobs to have your vacation rental looking fresh and ready for new visitors.

  1. Vacuum rugs or carpeting
  2. Clean all hard floors
  3. Wipe off all door handles
  4. Replace towels and other linens
  5. Remove cobwebs on light fixtures and in corners
  6. Dust, especially on the shelves or any accent pieces
  7. Check the space between cushions for crumbs, debris, or sand, especially if you’re renting out a beach property
  8. Disinfect high-touch items including remotes, TVs, light switches, and coffee tables

Laundry

While the cleaning crew is in the rental, they should take care of any laundry that needs to be done or gather up those items and replace them before leaving, so the property is ready for its next guests. Make sure that your cleaning crew takes care of:

  1. Dirty sheets, comforters, and bedding
  2. Throw pillow covers and blankets, if needed
  3. Towels and washcloths
  4. Kitchen rags

Remember, just because items are neatly folded, or beds are made, it does not necessarily mean that they haven’t been used. Encourage your cleaning crew to check all linens carefully before leaving.

Keeping your vacation rental property sparkling clean is an integral part of creating the appeal your guests want. By making sure your cleaning checklist includes these key items, you can create a better experience for your visitors and increase the likelihood that they will stay with you again.
