The Feedback Checklist Property Owners Should Use with Every Guest

vacation at my place feedback checklist

Follow this feedback checklist when asking your guests how they enjoyed their stay.

After your guests leave your rental property, you will want to check in and make sure their experience was excellent. If your guests aren’t satisfied, you will want to take any steps necessary to improve the rental experience for future guests. Simply asking, “How was your stay?” or, “Did you have a nice time?” may not be enough to provide an accurate picture of your guests’ experience or give you tips for increasing satisfaction. Instead, make sure to ask the following questions on your feedback checklist.

How Would You Rate Your Stay?

You may want the first item on your feedback checklist to be a scale, either from one to five or one to ten. This scale allows guests to rate their experience at your vacation property on a scale. Ask them how likely they would be to recommend your property to a friend in the future to help you gauge their overall satisfaction.

Make sure to leave room for feedback! You may want to ask, “What could we have done to make your stay even better?” or, “What did you like best about your stay?” Both positive and negative feedback can be crucial for improving your guests’ overall experience.

Did You Have Everything You Needed for a Pleasant Stay?

You stocked your vacation rental property with the best amenities: everything your guests could need to enjoy the local area and make the most of their time at your property. You may have worked to stock the kitchen with cooking essentials or ensured that your guests have access to extra toiletries. You may have provided a guidebook or other suggestions to help improve your guests’ stay. However, there’s only one way to know that you’ve thought of everything: ask!

To allow more room for guests to offer feedback, ask some thoughtful questions as part of your feedback checklist. Ask questions like, “What items did you wish you had during your stay?” or, “What amenities did you use most?” This can help you plan for future guests.

How Satisfied Were You With Check-In and Check-Out Procedures?

Check-in and check-out are a significant part of the vacation rental guest’s stay. You want to make sure that the experience is streamlined and that you provide all the information your guests need in an uncomplicated way. Of course, as part of your open-ended feedback, be sure to ask what you could have done to make those procedures easier!

How Likely Are You to Recommend This Vacation Rental?

In addition to the other elements of your questionnaire, you may want to ask whether your guests would be willing to recommend you to their circle of contacts. Ask why they would or would not recommend you, and use that to determine how you can change your efforts in the future.

This feedback checklist is an essential tool for learning more about what your guests need from your property. You don’t want to make your questionnaire too long since guests could lose interest. Instead, ask them a few basic questions that cover the essential elements of their stay. Then, take a look at both the positive and negative feedback. While positive feedback will tell you what you do well, negative feedback will tell you what you may need to improve to attract more visitors in the future.
